Asbestos Surveys (HMI)
Asbestos and Lead are regulated hazardous materials because exposures can cause serious health risks if disturbed. If your home was built before 1990, it is very likely that there could be hazardous materials in your home and all suspect materials must be tested before disturbing them.
Any material that is not wood, metal, or glass can contain asbestos. Common examples of matierals in the home range from drywall joint compound, concrete piping, cement board, mastic, bells and spigot joint gaskets to vermiculite insulation and chimney caulking.
Worksafe BC requires a survey to be taken by a competent, trained person. Our experienced, AHERA-certified inspectors conduct Hazardous material investigations (HMI) and check your materials before you renovate, repair, or demo your building. All samples are analyzed by accredited labs.
Asbestos Removal + Disposal
Asbestos may be managed through the use of various abatement and containment techniques. Asbestos fibres are only dangerous when disturbed, and can safely be left in-place in some situations.
Asbestos removal is a dangerous and specialized project that should only be undertaken by an experienced company. The work must be conducted safely and with care to prevent exposure and cross-contamination of the indoor environment.
Genesis is fully trained and certified, and has TDG (transport dangerous goods) licensing and Environmental Pollution Liability insurance with endorsements for asbestos, lead and other hazardous material cleanup.
Should you only require disposal services, please contact us directly.
Mold Remediation
Genesis’ name can be found is in the ANSI/IICRC S520 Professional Standard for Mold Remediation. Unlike most of our competitors, we have Professional Liability insurance with a mold endorsement for environmental consulting, and our insurance company stands behind our opinion.
Tip: Companies that claim to remediate using chemicals or ozone have a weak understanding of physics, chemistry and biology. It may be cheap but it doesn’t restore your property to a healthy environment.
Our clients are buying, selling and sometimes restoring and upgrading properties. Genesis has always provided great service to our clientele and business partners . They know how to keep schedules and hit their deadlines and get the job done right. In particular there handling of mold and asbestos abatement projects is top notch. Thank you!

Lead Abatement
Lead is a hazardous material that is found in many building environments and is also a known carcinogen. Often found in paint, lead-containing materials when disturbed or deteriorated (chipped or peeling). Ingestion or inhalation can cause significant permanent organ damage or cancer.
Genesis effectively and safely removes these products in full compliance with Worksafe BC. Our specialist team has extensive experience with heritage buildings, historic churches and residential homes, and often works alongside general contractors on projects of any size.
Other Hazardous Materials
Hazardous materials such as mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) or radioactive compounds require specialized removal techniques.
More commonly, indoor spills of concentrated chemicals, paints, or battery acid also require specific, highly-regulated processes to dispose of and restore to a safe, healthy space.
The team at Genesis can take care of contamination of all types within the indoor environment.
